Are We Giving Our Best Like Mary?
I shared a message to a group of ladies in the church last Saturday at Auntie Becky's house, this is an excerpt. My first question to them (including myself) was: are we giving our best?
I serve my Lord, I teach the children on Sundays, I clean the worship hall, I cook and serve meals...etc. Are these enough? Am I doing my best? How do I measure up with Mary? Mary anointed the Lord Jesus Christ with her treasured possession, a precious nard perfume. In today's monetary conversion, it was a year's salary!! Mary perfectly understood when the Lord said “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Mathew 10:37) Jesus Christ was Mary's most important person in her life. She demonstrated her love to Christ more than to her brother Lazarus by saving her best possession and poured it on to the feet of the Lord.
It is easy to say “yes, I love the Lord” but do I really love Him? What offering have I given to say it is so?
Mary was a doer. Every time she sees the Lord Jesus Christ an action is done. Mary was sitting at his feet listening to the teachings of the Lord (Luke 10:38-42). In John 11:28-32, The Lord Jesus Christ went to see Lazarus at the tomb, Mary run to him and bowed at his feet. And in John 12:3-8, she poured the precious perfume on the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair.
Are we doers of the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ? Does our love to Him grow every time we worship him?
Mary’s action won the heart of Jesus Christ, he accepted her offering, He even commended her for it. He was pleased with her offering He even defended her against the criticism of Judas.
Have I given my best like Mary did? Have you? What have you done lately that showed that you offered your “best and precious perfume” to the Lord Jesus Christ? What teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ have you acted upon yesterday? Was your service to the Lord Jesus Christ the same yesterday as you did the other day? Name three (3) things that you did yesterday that Jesus Christ may commend you for it.
